LUMii BLACK Electronic Ballast

£69.99 incl. Vat
LUMii BLACK Electronic Ballast Our LUMii BLACK 600w Electronic Ballast’s are supplied as a stand-alone ballast with a flying IEC lead, which means you can add any reflector fitted with an IEC socket to start growing – it’s that simple! The ballast features dim and boost functions, giving you the ability to control the light output from your lamp to your plants. There are two dimmable options (250w & 400w) and a ‘super-lumens’ boost option (600w+Boost) which is on average a 10% increase in output. For best results we recommend using a LUMii BLACK or LUMii SunBlaster Lamp. ADJUSTA-WATT® RETRO LED 720W

£319.00 incl. Vat
We’ve removed the driver, meaning the end user can save money by using their existing 600w digital ballast. When connected to a 600w digital ballast and mounted at 15cm above the canopy, the Adjusta-Watt® Retro LED produces an average PPFD of 1231μmol/s/m². That’s over twice the growth light than that of a 600w HPS, for the same power consumption! (required 600w digital ballast separate)

LED Grow Lights & Hydroponic Grow Lighting Systems

Best for energy efficiency.

LED grow lights are by far the most popular, and with advances in LED technology, the LED bulbs have become more efficient in lumen output and use the proper part of the light spectrum for better yields per watt of electricity than HPS lights (best for relative high power and light intensity).

They also have a longer lifespan than normal lamps, with no bulb replacements, and run cooler, with less energy used. However, they do require a larger initial cost.

A white LED grow light emits very similar amounts of red and blue light, and combines that with green light to appear white.

600W Grow Lights

600 watt grow lights are the most popular sized used in grow rooms/tents around the country. They are the most efficient type, providing the best amount of light per watt than any other size of lamp, and our most commonly used for a 1.2m x 1.2m growing area.

You can shop all 600W grow lights here.

CDM Lighting Kits

Best for full-spectrum lighting.

CDM stands for Ceramic Discharge Metal-Halide , and they produce a full spectrum of light which helps to produce a really high-quality crop. They use an arc-tube element filled with gas, and that gas is then excited by the power from the ballast.

Some people use CDM alongside HPS, for instances where HPS doesn’t provide the full spectrum.

You can browse our CDM lighting range here.

Propagation Lighting

Propagation lights are lower intensity lights that are used for younger plants that can’t handle the high intensity grow lights. The best for plant growth of seedlings.

Fluorescent Grow Lights

Fluorescent lights are the classic tube-type lights similar to what you might find in your house. They use fluorescent bulbs and produce a fairly inconsistent light spectrum and are very energy inefficient.

Whilst fluorescent light isn’t good for young plants (as they don’t penetrate the canopy well) they are useful for growing plants that require a more gently light, such as cuttings.

The most common type is a Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL).

What is a Grow Light and Why Do You Need Them?

A grow light is a light bulb producing a type of artificial light that’s used to help indoor plants grow faster and healthier. The grow light bulb attempts to emulate the light spectrum of the sun, and can be modified to perfectly match the spectrum of a particular plant that you may be growing.

These are combined with reflectors in a grow room or grow tent to maximise efficiency.

Common types include High intensity Discharge (HID) lights, High-Pressure Sodium (HPS), Metal Halide (MH), Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), and Fluorescent lights.

You need specific horticultural lighting because a normal light won’t be in the right spectrum to help the plant grow through photosynthesis (which requires natural light). This natural light is called PAR light (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) which is light with the number of photons between 400-700 nm received on the surface of a plant for a specific amount of time. This is measured using mol m−2s−1 (micromole), and when used for plant growth is measured over 24 hours (known as the DLI – Daily light Integral). Normal lights also won’t be as energy-efficient, meaning you will end up paying more money.

Dimmable settings help you to adjust the amount of light produced by your grow lamp over time, and aid in Photoperiodism (where plants need both light and dark time to grow).

They are common in the area of hydroponics (indoor gardening), used for tomatoes, herbs, houseplants, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce, other vegetables, and other plants.

The different colours of the light spectrum encourage different parts of the growth process, including UV light, Blue Light (used for a greater vegetative response), Red Light, and Green Light.

Incandescent bulbs produce too much heat, and so aren’t good for indoor growing.
